Health officials are concerned about a “superbug” that is spreading throughout US hospitals and a nursing home. The strange fungus has not responded to any medication and doctors fear it may be untreatable.
Called Candida auris, the fungus is a harmful type of yeast that is considered dangerous to hospital and nursing home patients who have serious medical problems.
It is spread from patient to patient through direct contact or from contaminated surfaces and can become deadly once it enters the bloodstream, heart or brain.
There have been outbreaks recently at two hospitals in Dallas, US, and a nursing home in Washington, D.C., the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP) reported.
