Deadline’s Read the Screenplay series spotlighting the scripts behind awards season’s buzziest films continues with Amazon MGM Studios and Actors Equity’s Unstoppable, the inspirational sports drama directed by Oscar-winning Argo editor William Goldenberg in his feature helming debut and starring Jharrel Jerome and Jennifer Lopez.

Eric Champnella, Alex Harris and John Hindman co-wrote the screenplay, based on NCAA national wrestling champ Anthony Robles’ book (written with Austin Murphy) Unstoppable: From Underdog to Undefeated: How I Became a Champion.

It chronicles the three-time All American’s journey to the top against every expectation after he was born without a right leg.

Jerome plays Robles, with the story focused on the obstacles faced by he and his mother Judy (played by Lopez) as Anthony overcame a difficult childhood to pursue his dreams, eventually winning the 2021 national title for Arizona State by beating a wrestler from national powerhouse Iowa — the same school that had rejected him earlier in his college career.
