UK weather: Snow falls on first day of summer as coronavirus lockdown continues

A scattering of snow was reported falling in parts of the UK this morning on the first day of British summer time. Although the flurry was not heavy it is a far cry from earlier this week when the country was bathed in sunshine.

Overnight last night temperatures fell rapidly with Brits in the more rural areas even waking up to frost. In some spots the mercury got as low as -4C.

And temperatures today will struggle to reach double digits with a keen northeasterly wind making it feel colder. Met Office Chief Meteorologist Dan Suri said: "It will be a marked change from the 18 or 19 Celsius we have been seeing in a few spots this week."
