Soaring temperatures promise a warm half-term week as the country basks in a mini heatwave. It will be Britain’s second warm spell in as many weeks as the weather continues to heat up with 28C predicted for the weekend.
But with parts of the country set to be hotter than the Mediterranean, it has prompted concerns over public safety due to packed beaches, alongside fears of a water shortage after rain levels have slumped in the past three months.
Last week’s scorcher saw the hottest day of the year, with a sweltering 28.2C recorded at Santon Downham in Suffolk. Forecaster Greg Dewhurst said: “It’s hotter than the Mediterranean at the moment and it’s going to stay like it all week. “We’re going to see temperatures well above the average. “
