Heavy rain is set to hit the country today as temperatures take a marked plunge after a scorching end to the week. Temperatures to drop to as low as 10C in parts of the country, a huge drop from Friday's record-breaking 'one-day wonder' of 38.7C.

The Met Office the rain will be heaviest and most frequent in the north of the UK today, with showers also expected across northern Wales and the midlands.

There's also the potential for thunder late into the afternoon across parts of Scotland and northern England, though no warning has been issued as yet.
