Holidaymakers in the Canary Islands are warned of rough sea conditions and strong winds this week as the archipelago is placed under yellow weather alerts.

Aemet, Spain’s national weather agency, has issued a yellow coastal warning around Lanzarote with sea swells of up to four metres expected.

It comes as the Canary Islands government renewed the ‘state of pre-alert’ for the Canary Islands for ‘coastal phenomena’ yesterday, with ‘bad sea conditions’ expected all week.

Residents and visitors are urged to follow the government’s safety guidance for rough sea conditions, which includes not standing at the edge of piers or jetties and not swimming at beaches with a red flag.
