UK households are being offered up to £500 in cost of living payments this January to spend on food, energy bills and other essentials through the Household Support Fund. The scheme, which has been extended until 2025, sees the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) send funds to local councils across the UK, who then distribute the money to those in need as they see fit.

Because the scheme devolves power to local authorities, each council has a different set of eligibility criteria and a different amount of money it will give out.

For instance, Solihull Council is offering energy bill vouchers worth £147 or direct debt relief of £500 for those struggling with utility bills.

Meanwhile, Camden Council in London is offering a Household Support Fund payment of up to £500 per household, as well as up to £30 supermarket shopping vouchers for each eligible child.
