The UK has now ordered 407million doses of coronavirus vaccines after buying extra doses of a yet-to-be-approved jab. The government today ordered an extra 40million doses of the Valneva vaccine - which will be made in Scotland if it is approved.
It brings the total number of UK-bought Valneva jabs to 100million, a total matched only by the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine. The latest bast of the Valneva jab is earmarked for delivery in 2022.
The Valneva vaccine has not yet entered Phase 3 trials, which are needed before it can get approval from the MHRA regulator.
