The UK Government has said it is “working urgently” with local authorities and Devolved Administrations to finalise the details of providing the £400 Energy Bills Support Scheme to people who do not have a direct electricity connection with their supplier.
This includes private tenants with an all-inclusive rental agreement and people living in a park home or on a houseboat. The response came following several similar questions from MPs, including Jonathan Edwards MP, Mark Pritchard MP and the SNP’s Patricia Gibson.
The North Ayrshire and Arran MP asked what timescale is being set out to ensure people who do not automatically qualify for the £400 rebate will receive equivalent support to help with rising energy bills.
In a written response, Business Minister, Graham Stuart MP, said: “The Government is working urgently with a range of organisations, such as local authorities, as well as Devolved Administrations and across UK Government, to finalise the details and have the process up and running for applications this winter.” Earlier this month, Chancellor Jeremy Hunt, announced that the UK Government’s £2,500 Energy Price Guarantee scheme will end in April and not in 2024 as previously announced by former Prime Minister, Liz Truss. The scheme will reduce the unit cost of electricity and gas so that a typical household across the UK pays, on average, around £2,500 a year on their energy bill, from October until the end of March.
