The UK government has bought up 10 face mask production lines as the coverings become mandatory in England's shops from Friday.
Ministers have invested £14m in manufacturing to buy up 10 production lines, including in Port Talbot and Blackburn, and commission a further 10 from a private firm in Coventry.
It is understood the move will happen in two phases, with the first up and running now and the second to begin in late August or early September.
It comes as the law changes to force people to wear face coverings in England's shops and supermarkets from Friday - or face a £100 fine.
