There have been a further 232 coronavirus deaths in the UK and an additional 20,263 confirmed cases in the last 24 hours. That's more than 5,000 more infections than were recorded last Monday, December 7.
It takes the total number of fatalities within 28 days of a positive test to 64,170 and the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 1,869,666.
Last Monday the death toll rose by 189 with another 14,718 cases across the UK. There is normally a lag on recording the figures on Monday due to a weekend lag.
Across the UK the coronavirus hospital death toll rose by 217. Earlier today England recorded 179 new hospital deaths, Wales recorded 33 deaths, Northern Ireland reported five new deaths and Scotland recorded no deaths.
