The UK's coronavirus hospital death toll has increased by four, with all of the fatalities occurring in England. There were no deaths in Scotland for the fifth consecutive day, but it reported a three-month high in the number of new confirmed cases.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said the country was in a "very fragile situation" and transmission of Covid-19 was increasing again, as she urged Scots to "do the right thing" to curb the spread of the virus.

Wales and Northern Ireland also reported no new deaths. On recent Mondays, the number of deaths increased by 4 on August 24, two on August 17 (the lowest increase on any day since the lockdown began), seven on August 10 and five on August 3.
