UK coronavirus death toll up by 137 as grim total now more than 44,000

The UK's coronavirus death toll increased by 137 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of fatalities to 44,131. The rise is higher than yesterday when 89 new Covid-19 deaths were announced.

A Department for Health and Social Care spokesman said: “As of 9am 3 July, there have been 10,120,276 tests, with 205,673 tests on 2 July.

284,276 people have tested positive. "As of 5pm on 2 July, of those tested positive for coronavirus, across all settings, 44,131 have sadly died.” It comes as England prepares to reopen pubs across the country tomorrow on what is being dubbed 'Super Saturday'.
