Tyler Perry is adding to his collection of first-look deals. Perry has struck a first-look series deal with Netflix, adding to his pact with the streamer on movies.
As part of the new arrangement, the streamer has ordered drama series Beauty In Black, the first greenlight under the deal. This comes on top of Perry’s BET deal for TV, which we understand is ongoing with more than 10 series at the company.
In 2017, Perry struck a large, long-term pact with the company then known as Viacom. Beauty in Black is a 16-episode drama series written, directed and produced by Perry.
It follows two women leading different lives — Kimmie is struggling to make a living after her mother kicked her out and Mallory is running a successful business — who find themselves entangled in each other’s lives.
