A top scientist has warned two more places in England are "clearly of concern" because of high rates of coronavirus. Imperial College London's Professor Neil Ferguson, who was a government adviser at the start of the pandemic, says it is only a matter of time until more places impose local lockdowns as Leicester has done following a spike of Covid-19 cases.

Leicester's flare-up means it will not emerge from parts of lockdown as swiftly as the rest of England on July 4, when pubs, restaurants, hairdressers and other non-essential businesses will reopen.

Residents have been told to stay at home, with schools and shops to shut this week with the city being one of the country's Covid-19 epicentres.
