Actor Stuart McGugan, 76, picks his favourite photograph as he remembers filming classic sitcom It Ain't Half Hot Mum, in his own words... This shows me as Gunner “Atlas” Mackintosh in It Ain’t Half Hot Mum, the sitcom that ran on BBC1 between 1974 and 1981, about a Royal Artillery concert party based in India during the Second World War.
I only looked big and strapping on that show because they usually put Don Estelle on one side of me and Melvyn Hayes on the other.
It was mainly filmed at BBC TV Centre, but if they wanted desert we went to a sandpit in Norfolk, and if they wanted jungle we’d go to Farnham and put a bit of jungly dingle in front of the camera.
