A Turkish-born chippy boss has sent across hundreds of pounds to help towards rebuilding his earthquake hit home village.Ali Cobanoglu, who owns Ayr’s Lucky Star chip shop, has thanked loyal customers for donating cash to help his small village of Bozlar, near Pazarcik, Turkey, after launching a desperate appeal to the Ayrshire community last month.Bozlar was left devastated when two huge earthquakes hit Turkey, Syria and the surrounding region on February 6.More than 55,000 deaths have since been confirmed- 13 of which were sadly from Bozlar- with thousands in dire need of shelter, food and warmth as they are left homeless.

Ali, who visits Turkey every year, was desperate to help loved ones in Bozlar and launched a fundraiser from his chippy on George Street to coin in funds to send over.

He previously told Ayrshire Live: “This is a really sad situation. It could happen to anybody in the world. “We want to make sure the money is going to the right place, directly to the area.“I don’t have a charity number but I have the contacts to know it will go direct to help.”Now the chippy boss has managed to send across £800 to help with the rebuild of his village. He said: “We managed to raise £735 in the shop from people putting money in, and I made it up £800.“I’ve sent it away by Western Union.

We have a guy in our village who has been organising things so it’s been sent to him and it’ll be used for whatever they need.“Things are still the same.
