Touching tributes have been paid to a Stirling woman who went on to become a top official for the Scottish Ladies Golfing Association (SLGA) who has died.Sheila Hartley, of Blairlogie, died peacefully in hospital on Friday, September 1.The much-loved friend, godmother and cousin held careers in salmonid biology and in golf – culminating in her taking on the role of Chief Operating Officer of the SLGA.A member of both Braehead Golf Club and Dunblane New Golf Club, Sheila was with the SLGA for nine years until 2012, when she made the decision to take early retirement so she could devote more time to her own golf.Sheila oversaw the SLGA vote with a 93-per cent majority in favour of amalgamating with the SGU in the first vote cast on the subject, although with her departure in 2012, unfortunately she was no longer at the helm when the two organisations came together to form one single governing body for the sport in Scotland.Former SLGA chairman, Shona Malcolm, said: “For many years Sheila was very much the oil that kept the SLGA machinery ticking over.

She could turn her hand to everything the varied job description demanded. Her pet hate, though, was uniform and everything to do with it, whether for the board, the staff or the players!”Sheila’s funeral will take place today (Friday) at Stirlingshire
