Train passengers should brace for significant disruption in the first week of 2023 as rail workers will take strike again next week, impacting ScotRail services.The RMT has confirmed that Network Rail members will walk out on January 3, 4, 6 and 7, amid unresolved disputes over pay, jobs and conditions.
Commuters are being urged to check routes ahead of time to make sure their trains are still running.While ScotRail staff are not involved in the industrial action, it will significantly impact services, as many striking Network Rail workers hold safety critical roles.
The operator has confirmed that the majority of their routes won't be running within the strike period.ScotRail will run 12 services on all strike dates and January 5 between 7.30am and 6.30pm.
The trains will cover routes across the central belt, Fife and the Borders.RMT members previously took strike action last week, with no trains running on Christmas Eve until December 27, affecting ScotRail services.David Simpson, ScotRail service delivery director, said: “It’s really disappointing to see more widespread disruption across the whole Great Britain rail network as a result of the dispute between Network Rail and the RMT at a time when we need to be encouraging more people back to the railway.“For ScotRail, it’s going to mean that we won’t be able to operate the vast majority of our services between January 3 and 7, which we know will be really frustrating for our customers.“We’re advising customers to seek alternative means of transport and to only travel if they really need to on the days of strike action.
