A schoolboy who died after tragically being shot in the head while hunting rabbits has been named. Jay Cartmell suffered serious head and face injuries in the weekend's tragic incident.It took place on a farm near Warcop, Cumbria, on Saturday at around 2.50pm.

It's claimed the eight-year-old, of Frizington, West Cumbria, was hunting rabbits when he was shot.He was rushed to hospital in an air ambulance but sadly died overnight.

Cumbria Police said a man in his 60s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter.The Mirror reports a spokesman added: "As officers continue with their enquiries into this incident, they are encouraging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or the moments leading up to it to come forward. "Emergency services rushed to the remote farm in Warcop, Cumbria yesterday following a report that a child had been seriously injured in the head and face by a gun."Locals say they believe the shooting may have been an accident.

The tiny village is home to around 500 people, with two churches and a small primary school, though it is believed the boy was not a pupil there.
