Tragedy as person dies at train station

A person has tragically died on a railway line in Wigan. Emergency services were called out to Pemberton railway station this afternoon (March 15).

British Transport Police says it was called out at around 2.15pm to reports of a casualty on the tracks. Officers attended the incident alongside paramedics from North West Ambulance Service.

The railway line between Wigan Wallgate and Headbolt Lane, in Merseyside, is currently closed. National Rail says the line is not expected to open until at least 5.15pm.
