A Tory MP has claimed it’s a “fact” that making it easier to get divorced will lead to more people needing to use food banks.
Scott Benton, the new Conservative MP for Blackpool, made the remarks branded “deplorable” by Labour ’s Stella Creasey, during a debate on plans to introduce “no fault” divorce in the House of Commons.
He claimed the new rules would result in “more people falling on hard times” and needing support from the community. “Strong families and marriage provide the support and stability that benefits not just the individuals concerned but society as a whole,” Mr Benton said. “It is a sad fact that anything we do to weaken the family unit and marriage by making a make divorce easier to obtain will result in greater family
