Boris Johnson’s Press Secretary today claimed there’s “no way” you can call the Tories the “nasty party”. Allegra Stratton hit back after being labelled with the nickname due to a planned £20-a-week benefits cut.
No10's own ex-homelessness adviser, Dame Louise Casey, had warned if Tories go ahead with slashing Universal Credit in April, “they just go back to being the nasty party." Ms Stratton hit back: “There is no way that this party and this Government can be called the 'nasty party', when you look at the £280billion worth of support that has been put in place during the pandemic for everybody.” She added “a lot of it has gone to the less well-off in society”.
