For 26 year old Megan Crome from London, eczema is something that she’s dealt with for the majority of her life. But after years of using topical steroid cream to calm down her painful skin, she is currently experiencing topical steroid withdrawal (TSW) - a condition that affects some people when they stop using the treatment.

While most people who use topical steroid cream won’t experience TSW, in rare instances some, like Megan, some develop symptoms including swelling and insomnia.

As outlined by a government review: “When used correctly, topical corticosteroid medicines are safe and effective treatments for skin disorders. “However, if used very often or continually for a prolonged time, there have been reports of withdrawal reactions after they are stopped.” Here, Megan shares her story exclusively with OK! ...
