Jimmy Thelin has challenged Topi Keskinen to burst his way into the Finnish national team. The big-money signing has made an instant impact at Aberdeen, netting a debut winner against Queen’s Park on Sunday.

Thelin decided to pay Aberdeen’s second highest fee, £860,000, to land the Finland Under-21 cap from HJK Helsinki. And the Dons expect the door to the full Finland squad to open if he continues to impress at Pittodrie.

Thelin said: “Hopefully, I think the environment here can help him take that responsibility. I don’t decide who plays for the national team of Finland but hopefully if he works hard and does his job, shows some passion and grows then he will maybe deserve it.”Thelin believes Keskinen has all the raw materials but what impressed him was his desire to move to Scotland.

He could have gone to better leagues for more money but chose the Scottish Premiership for his development. Thelin claimed: “We want the players to really come here. “He showed a lot of passion to come here to Aberdeen.
