Top Ayrshire dessert parlour in the running for another national award

The family behind a dessert parlour say they're ‘over the moon’ to have been shortlisted for yet another national award.Nanny Mary’s, on Ayr’s Smith Street, are finalists in the food category at The Scotland StartUp Awards, who recognise the country’s best new businesses.The finalist announcement comes hot on the heels of the popular eatery scooping best ‘New Food Business of the Year’ at the Prestige Awards in October last year.Allana Harte, 28, who runs Nanny Mary’s alongside mum Alana, stepdad Michael, grandad James and uncle Noel, said the team are delighted to be finalists and hope to bag the title at the awards night on April 27 at SWG3 in Glasgow.She said: “We’re really looking forward to it.

The fact that there’s only five finalists from Scotland in the food category and we’re one of them has literally just blown our minds.“I got an email and it went to my junk folder and it said ‘Congratulations!’ and I thought ‘Och here we go, what PPI case or accident is this for’, but it said the Scottish Start Up Awards have selected us to be shortlisted for the finals.“My stepdad is absolutely over the moon.“All of this is possible because of a message that we’re trying to create, which is just about family values, no gimmicks or trying to make anything fancy, and just spending time with your family.“It’s about wanting to create a space for families to create memories with their families.“It’s a good hearty place where you can get a good homemade meal or a homemade dessert.”Allana said that the success of the popular diner, which launched during lockdown, is all down to the legacy of the family’s late ‘Nanny Mary’, who the business is named after.She said: “Growing up she always had sweet stuff on the go and you weren’t
