Scotland under-21 boss Scot Gemmill insists ‘standout’ young gun Tommy Conway is ready to be fast-tracked on to Steve Clarke ’s plane to Germany.
Conway was drafted into Clarke’s provisional squad at the eleventh hour on Tuesday when the Bristol City striker was given a dramatic wild card call-up ahead of Clarke’s final Euro warm-up match against Finland.
The 21-year-old was given the news moments after scoring for Gemmill’s youngsters in a 2-1 defeat to Turkey on Monday night after injuries ruled Lyndon Dykes and Ben Doak out of the 26 strong travelling party to Bavaria.
Conway’s promotion means Clarke now has 27 men left standing - including four goalkeepers - as he prepares to make one final cut for the base camp in Garmisch- Partenkirchen before Friday's 11pm deadline.
