Sir Tom Jones vows to never retire while his voice is “still there” – as he hits 80. The star, who reached the milestone last week, said he had no plans to slow down.

He said: "I like birthdays. People say, ‘What is it like growing old?’ but I say, ‘What is the alternative?'. "I don’t mind growing old as the memories are tremendous. "I don’t want to stop as God has been good to me and my voice is still there.

He adds: "I want to do it as long as there is a breath in my body". Speaking with Cerys Matthews on BBC Radio 2, he talked about his sadness at having to postpone his 2020 tour until next year.

He said: "That is one of the shames with lockdown. "Doing live shows, that’s my lifeblood, so I’m singing around the house now".
