'Tired' grandad who shook baby grandson for six seconds jailed after infant dies

A granddad who killed his three-month-old grandson after shaking him for around six seconds has been jailed for manslaughter.

Wayne William Downing, 48, was looking after little Noah at a home in Perth, Australia, in May 2016. Downing told police he had been asleep on the couch when Noah woke up in his room and began crying.

Frustrated and tired, he said he gave the baby "just a little shake," the Daily Star reports. A judge said Downing shook Noah in the irrational hope that 'doing so would make him fall asleep'.
