A historic clock in Paisley has stopped working as its iconic chimes fall silent. The clock – which sits high above the Tartan Rose bar on Broomlands Street – reportedly stopped working towards the end of last year and has been sitting at the time of 2.40 since.Built in the 19th century, the clock has been a huge feature in the Paisley area with some residents claiming that it can play over 30 tunes with its chimes.Back in 2021, Renfrewshire Council were awarded a grant of over £16,000 by Historic Environment Scotland to repair the mechanics that work the chimes, as well as bring awareness to the significance of the local landmark. It is unknown when the clock will be repaired as the country experiences the effects of the cost-of-living crisis. However, many residents will be hoping that the once loud, and proud, clock can fill the streets of Paisley once more in the near future.Don't miss the latest Renfrewshire headlines –sign up to our free daily newsletter here
