Nutrition expert Professor Tim Spector has hailed the benefits of a super vegetable that can help reduce swelling in the body and bring down high blood pressure.
The specialist, who is a professor at King's College London and helped start the health app ZOE, shared on Instagram the amazing things beetroot can do for your blood flow.
He also mentioned an interesting fact that the popular vegetable was once a symbol used by brothels in ancient Rome.Prof Spector explained that beetroot has a special chemical called polyphenol which is really good at reducing swelling, and it also has nitrates that help make your blood vessels bigger, Gloucestershire Live reports.
This is said to be ideal for people who play sports and for keeping your blood pressure healthy.He said: "Beetroot was the favourite symbol in Roman brothels.
