TikTok Sets Automatic 60 Minute Limit To Promote Safe App Usage

The platform has introduced a handful of new features to restrict the time that teens under the age of 18 spend on the app. Keep reading to find out more… In their announcement, which was posted on their official blog, TikTok’s head of trust and safety, Cormac Keenan, revealed that every account belonging to a user under the age of 18 will automatically have a daily screen time limit of 60 minutes.
Once the limit is reached, teens will need to enter a passcode to continue watching. For users under 13, the limit will also be set to 60 minutes, and a parent or guardian will need to enter a passcode to allow an additional 30 minutes of watch time.
Users 13 and older can choose to opt out of the 60-minute default, however, TikTok will then prompt them to set a daily screen time limit if they spend more than 100 minutes on the app per day.
Additionally, every teen account will receive a weekly inbox notification with a recap of their screen time. The post also reports that the app consulted academic research and experts from the Digital Wellness Lab at Boston Children’s Hospital to determine the appropriate limit.
