Tiger King star Joe Exotic's ex-husband is a convicted pedophile in prison for gun murder

Joe Exotic, the star of Netflix's Tiger King series, was once married to a convicted paedophile who is now in prison for murder.

He fell for Jeffrey Charles 'JC' Hartpence in 1991, years before he was convicted of his crimes. Born Joe Schreibvogel, Exotic is currently serving 22 years in jail for paying a hitman to kill Carole Baskin, and of killing tigers to make room for more cats in his zoo.

When he met Hartpence Joe was still grieving the death of his first husband Brian Rhyne, who died of complications related to HIV.

The relationship came to an end when Hartpence held a gun to Joe's head in a drunken rage, New York Magazine reported. Years after their split Hartpence was convicted for "aggravated indecent liberties with a child
