mirror.co.ukThree missing men have been rescued from a tiny island after writing 'SOS' in huge letters in the sand. The mariners were found on the Pacific Island of Pikelot, Yap, after search crews spotted the writing and saw their boat next to it.
The men had set out last Thursday aiming to make the 26 mile trip from Pulawat to Pulap atolls in the Federated States of Micronesia.
But they went off course, ran out of fuel and landed on the uninhabited Pikelot Island instead, 118 miles from where they were heading.
The men had been missing for nearly three days and when they didn't arrive at their destination, the US Coast Guard's Joint Rescue Sub Center ordered a search operation to track them down.
