Life for Rowland the lurcher dog did not get off to the best start. In February 2018, aged just six months old, he was a stray pooch found by local authorities and brought to a Dogs Trust Rehoming Centre where he spent the next three years of his life.
At the beginning of the year 2020, Rowland had to undergo a limb amputation of his rear left leg due to injuries he got whilst fending for himself on the streets, as reported by Chronicle Live.
Despite the best efforts of staff to find Rowland a home, the "loving and sensitive" puppy witnessed a number of dogs come and go from the shelter, in Darlington, while he remained in their care.
