Threave Rovers finally got the better of rivals St Cuthbert Wanderers on Saturday.Three previous Stewartry derbies this season – including one last Wednesday night – had all ended in wins for the Kirkcudbright side. But Aiden Kerr’s early goal proved to be decisive at Meadow Park at the weekend as Threave won the League Cup clash.Boss Vinnie Parker said: “The first couple of games when they beat us we didn’t deal with their physicality.

We probably tried to play too much football against them.“It’s nice to finally beat them and I knew we weren’t far away.“I was disappointed we didn’t get a result on Wednesday night and on Saturday we more than deserved it.“I thought on Wednesday night we were the better team.

We got our shape right, we just lacked that wee bit of cutting edge when we got in behind them."We changed it on Saturday to go a bit more direct, stuck to the game-plan and I thought we were by far the better team.“They were two decent derbies.

There was a bit of needle in it and they were enjoyable for everybody.”The win puts Threave up to second in their League Cup group, level on points with both leaders Stranraer and Newton Stewart.Their next group game is at Creetown on Saturday.
