in Bolton due to a “significant rise in cases” in the borough. All hospitality businesses will be restricted to takeaway service only and venues will be required to close from 10pm to 5am.
The announcement was made by Matt Hancock in the Commons earlier this afternoon. The Health Secretary said the decision came after a number of pubs in the town caused the virus to “spread significantly”.
Track and trace systems showed that the rise in cases was partly due to people in their 20s and 30s socialising. Bolton now has the highest case rate in the country, seeing 120 cases per 100,000 people.
The sudden spike has forced action to be taken “immediately” - with visitor restrictions to combat the spread into care homes and hospitals also set to.
