People across Manchester reported hearing a 'huge bang' overhead this evening (July 6). The noise, which was reported in Ancoats, but also heard as far as Gorton and Trafford, caught the attention of many in the city shortly before 8pm.

It is understood the noise actually came from three Eurofighter Typhoon aircrafts, which were performing a fly past over Old Trafford, shortly before 8pm.

Many people reported seeing the aircrafts flying over their houses shortly afterwards. Old Trafford, which is home to Manchester United Football Club, is hosting the opening game of the UEFA Women's Euro's tournament on Wednesday night (July 6), at 8pm.

To mark the occasion, the three fighter jets performed a quick flyover the city, causing many to run to their windows.
