Ann and David Hayward are sat on a bench at Piccadilly station on Tuesday morning waiting to catch a train home to Ipswich. A few hours earlier a law reintroducing the mandatory use of face masks on public transport in England came into force following concerns about rising Covid cases and the emergence of the new Omicron variant.

But Ann, 69, and David, 64, say the rule changes 'make no difference' to them as they’ve been wearing masks throughout the pandemic.
