A popular clothes shop has announced its shock closure. Old Town General store located in Stockport town centre confirmed the news via social media this afternoon.

In a sad update shared online, owners of the independent clothes store announced the sudden update, telling followers that they had closed their doors 'for a final time'.

The post went on to cite the pandemic and cost of living crisis as some of the reasons behind the decision. The store, founded by Murray, first opened on Lower Hillgate in 2020 and was regarded as one of the businesses that helped revive the town's shopping district.

In 2022 it celebrated its second birthday by moving just down the way to a larger unit on Great Underbank opposite the Merseyway Shopping Centre.
