A children's carol service was criticised for 'promoting Christianity' - as someone complained that it should not have been allowed to go ahead.

Kids from St Mary's CE Primary School sang carols and Christmas songs – and performed dances – at the outdoor event, organised by Prestwich and North Western Housing Association at its Rectory Green complex, close to Prestwich village centre.

The association's CEO said the singing was 'enjoyed by all', describing it as 'a delight'. But there was a complaint – prior to the event happening - objecting to the religious nature of the carol singing.

The association's December newsletter read: "I have received a complaint that the event promotes Christianity and should not be repeated in the future.
