Variety to kick off month, actor Sara Ramírez, who plays Che Diaz on HBO Max's revival promised an even more “robust” storyline for the controversial character in the new season.
Ramírez, like their character Che Diaz, identifies as nonbinary.“One of my burning passions about season 2 is Che,” And Just Like That… showrunner Michael Patrick King told . “I want to show the dimension of Che that people didn’t see, for whatever reason—because they were blinded, out of fear or terror.
I want to show more of Che rather than less of Che. Like, really.”Ramírez, who did not do much press for And Just Like That…, told Variety that they are “aware that Che made waves." But ultimately, they have intentionally avoided the online discourse about their character: “Other people’s opinions of a character—that’s not something I can allow into my process," they said. “I choose what I receive, right?
That’s the beauty of being grown—I don’t have to receive everything!"Ramírez also shared what they love about their "complicated" and “messy" character. "Che is a great reminder that even when we don’t like someone in our community, they still deserve love, safety and joy, like everyone else,” they said. “But the movement for liberation includes everyone, even people we don’t like.
