‘The Zone of Interest’ Sets Streaming Release Date on Max

The film arrives on Max on April 5, and is also currently available to rent/purchase on Prime Video and Apple TV+. Jonathan Glazer’s acclaimed film centers around Commandant Rudolf Höss (Christian Friedel) and his wife Hedwig (Sandra Huller) who live a “dream life” with their children in a seemingly-perfect home — except for the fact that it’s directly next door to the Auschwitz concentration camp.

It’s the latest Holocaust movie to receive love from the Academy. The film went into the Oscars with five nominations, including best picture and international feature — the only movie to cross over into both categories this year, which likely helped it snag the international statuette.

It is also the first time a U.K film has won the category. Meanwhile, one of the night’s biggest below-the-line shocks was when Tarn Willers and Johnnie Burn won best sound for the film, which many suspected would go to “Oppenheimer.” Glazer had the most political speech of Oscars night, using his time on stage to condemn the Israel-Hamas war. “All our choices were made to reflect and confront us in the present, not to say look what they did then, but rather look what we do now,” the British filmmaker said, according to the Academy’s official transcript of the speech. “Our film shows where dehumanization leads at its worst.
