The Yorkshire Vet made history with a groundbreaking moment as a beloved dog, Jimmy Joe, was whisked into surgery for an extraordinary procedure.
For the first time in the UK, cutting-edge 3D modelling technology was utilised by vets to insert screws into the spine of a dog.The poor pup was suffering from back pain during playtime, causing his owner great worry.
Luckily, the skilled team at Donaldson's Vets in Huddersfield were ready to assist. Surgeons Matt Smith and Martin, the senior surgeon, were on hand to undertake this pioneering operation.
Matt shared his optimism about the surgery, saying: "We're going to do a procedure so he'll have a much better quality of life, he'll be in a lot less pain, and hopefully he'll go on to be running around the fields like usual." Martin showcased the innovative technique using a 3D printed model and a replica spine, explaining to the audience: "We've CT scanned Jimmy Joe's spine and from that we've created a 3D model.
