Viewers of The Traitors have branded the BBC show "cruel" and "unnecessary" as contestants are buried alive in the latest challenge on Thursday night.

Four of the contestants put themselves forward to play a game of hide and seek, while another group had to find their teammates.

Every teammate they found earned them £1,500. But those who were hiding were faced with their darkest fears, as they met in a cemetery with a number of graves dug.

Moments later, host Claudia Winkleman informed them that they'd have to crawl into a coffin and be buried alive - but also that they would be in the coffin for 45 minutes.
