Women in the North live shorter lives, work more hours for less pay and are more likely to live in poverty than elsewhere in England.

That's the damning verdict of a new hard-hitting report which lays bare the vast inequalities faced by women in the North of England.

The research, published by Health Equity North, today (September 3) reveals that regional inequalities have grown in the last decade.

The 'Women of the North' report found that women living in the North have lower healthy life expectancy, fewer qualifications, worse mental health and are more likely to suffer domestic violence or end up in the criminal justice system compared to their counterparts in the rest of England.
