The Singapore Grip will explore one of the "darkest" and least-known moments of the Second World War, according to its screenwriter.The new ITV drama focuses on a British family living in Singapore at the time of the Japanese invasion during the war and has been adapted from Booker Prize winner JG Farrell's novel by Atonement and Dangerous Liaisons screenwriter Sir Christopher Hampton.Hampton spoke exclusively to about the drama, explaining the importance of bringing such an "underexplored subject" to our screens."The bombing raids on Singapore started the same day as Pearl Harbour, so nobody much knew about it when it started to happen, and it's so ignominious and such a disaster that it was not much talked about post war, "he said.
