Former SFA Technical Director Mark Wotte has revealed there were worries Billy Gilmour's move to Chelsea could hurt his development.
The Dutchman cited Ryan Gauld, another sumptuously gifted diminutive midfielder, as an example of how a move to a big club can go wrong if you are not exposed to the right amount of first team football.
But any fears have been swept aside as the 18-year-old has forged a place in the Premier League club's starting XI after a series of stunning performances.
Wotte, now technical director of UAE side Al Wahda, left his role in 2014 but keeps a keen eye on the Scottish game and remembers the high hopes that were held for the then Rangers kid when he was coming through at an SFA Performance School.
