Aly & AJ have spoken about how they pushed past their writers block to arrive at their brand new record, With Love From.
The duo - made up of sister Aly & AJ Michalka - return with their fifth record, their first in two years since 2021's glorious New Wave-influenced A Touch Of The Beat Gets You Up On Your Feet, Gets You Out And Then Into The Sun, their first official LP in over a decade.
But whereas A Touch Of The Beat...saw Aly & AJ combine their indie-rock sensibilities with soaring pop melodies, With Love From sees them expanding and deepening their craft, turning away from unabashed pop and into a more Americana-leaning sphere, heavily influenced by the work of Fleetwood Mac.
But as the duo told Jess Iszatt on last night's episode of The Record Club with Bowers & Wilkins, the album actually took shape for them following a period of writers block. "I'm blown away by the journey," AJ said, "because Aly and I took a really long break from music [the duo returned after a ten year hiatus as Aly & AJ in 2017] and this really is like a renaissance for our music." Aly elaborated: "Everyone obviously experiences writers block at certain times, but since we started new music, it's been this constant flow of inspiration.
