The one supermarket which has quietly slashed petrol and diesel prices this week
dailyrecord.co.ukA leading supermarket has quietly dropped both petrol and diesel prices. Asda is now charging an average of 153.5p for petrol and 176.7p for diesel, which is around 2p less than its rivals.
The grocer dropped petrol rates by 4.5p on average, while diesel prices have slashed by around 5.5p. Prices started to drop two days ago, according to the RAC's fuel watch.
This comes after the motoring group urged Big Four retailers to drop their fuel rates by at least 5p, as it was not reflecting wholesale savings.
They are now urging competitors Sainsbury's, Morrisons and Tesco to catch up. RAC fuel spokesman Simon Williams said: "Our data shows that, without advertising the fact, Asda has taken an average of 4.5p off the cost of litre of unleaded across its 320 sites in the last two days, and around 5.5p off diesel."While we’re pleased one major supermarket retailer has finally started heeding our calls to pass on the enormous drop in the wholesale prices of both fuels, the fact these price cuts have been made so quietly is surely admission that they should have come much sooner." A spokesperson for Asda told The Sun : "Asda is the price leader in the supermarket fuel sector and we remain focused on providing our customers with the best value at the pumps." Earlier this week, Asda was found to be the cheapest place to shop for a trolley's worth of groceries in November by the Consumer experts at Which?.
